Please read carefully and contact FSAD directly with any questions you may have.
First Street Academy of Dance’s Studios are located in Menominee’s Historic Waterfront Downtown.
STUDIO I is located at 521 First Street. Students may enter the studio through the alley next to Marmen Computing. If you are parking, be sure not to block the alley. Please do not let students run in the hallway leading to the studio.
STUDIO II is located at 108 6th Ave (across the street from the alley entrance to Studio I). Students may be dropped off in front of the studio doors. The front doors enter directly into the studio. We ask that you wait outside until class is done to avoid interruptions or distractions to the classes that are in session.
Please note, on-street and alley parking is limited in our area. There is a large parking lot on the corner on 2nd Street and 6th Ave that is open to the public and steps from both studios.
PLEASE AVOID THE MARMEN COMPUTING PARKING LOT BETWEEN 8AM & 5PM ON WEEKDAYS. This is a private lot and only available after their office hours and on weekends. Violators may be towed by Marmen. Short-term parking (15 minutes) in this lot is available for drop-off and pick-up only.
Most information will be sent via email. Please make sure we have a current email address on file. Please feel free to call 715-600-0251, talk to the studio owner, or talk with your child’s teacher about any questions, concerns or feedback you may have.
Our Junior, Apprentice and Senior levels are required to be logged into their level’s Band App. This is vital to communicate other performance information in a quick and effective way. This also allows students to communicate with one another without private group chats or social media messaging that all faculty, parents and students can access. Invites for Band will be privately emailed out to families that need to download this app.
No food, gum, or drink is allowed on the dance studio floors, the exception of water in a closable/spill proof container. Designated areas are provided for food and drink outside of class time — please clean up after yourself. Faculty will let students know where these designated areas are on the first day of each session.
Please show respect for instructors, fellow dancers, yourself, audience members and for FSAD’s buildings and equipment. The same respect must be made for any guest artists, substitute instructors, or other theaters, dance spaces, and buildings that FSAD Dancers visit. We ask that everyone leave spaces better than we’ve found them.
No one under the influence of drugs or alcohol is allowed in the studios or theater spaces we are renting. There is no smoking in or around the entrance to the studios. If a student acts in a manner that creates an unsafe or highly disrupted learning environment, that student will be dismissed immediately. No refund will be given if a student is asked to leave class or the studio due to misconduct.
FSAD has a zero tolerance policy for harassment, bullying, discrimination or intimidation for all faculty, families, students, and audience members. Reported incidents will be taken seriously and handled with confidentiality and with sympathy for all involved. These personal conduct policies may be revised at any time. Violators may be excused from the studio or asked to leave performances without previous warning.
Students will be placed in classes based on age, but upon further revision may be recommended to change levels to better suit their ability. If a class enrollment falls below five (5) students, the class times adjusted, class may be canceled or combined with another class at a different time. Please note, students may not have the same classmates year after year.
Since classes meet once a week, class attendance is required. Student participation is necessary to absorb class material and form stronger relationships within the classroom. Tardies and absences affect the entire class, so please make a conscious effort to be on time and attend your classes consistently. Please contact the studio of any absences and illness prior to the class starting. We do not prorate tuition due to vacations, illness or injury. Students are welcome to observe class in cases of long-term injury, or minor illnesses. Unfortunately, classes missed due to illness or injury can not be made up.
If a student is absent for four (4) weeks consecutively with no notice from the family, we will consider that student dropped regardless of the time of year. All previous tuition charges (including the month of the drop) or costume deposits will still be due regardless of the drop date. A final invoice will be sent to the account contact on file.
Announcements of cancellations will also be made on the FSAD Facebook Page, as well as a text message to the mobile number we have on file. Cancellations due to weather will not be made up. We do not prorate tuition in cases of inclement weather or other closings beyond the studio’s control.
FSAD follows the Marinette, Menominee and Peshtigo school systems as closely as possible for breaks with major holidays. The studios do not close for spring breaks. Teacher work days or in-services are not considered holidays. The Studio will be closed the following days:
● September 2nd - Labor Day
● October 31st - Halloween
● November 27th - 28th - Thanksgiving Break
● December 23rd - January 2nd - Christmas Break.
Again, The studios do not close for spring breaks.
Our 32nd Annual Dance recital will be held at Blesch Auditorium in Menominee, MI on Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10, 2025. Details of performance and rehearsal dates and times will be sent to families in late 2025.
Every dancer is required to purchase a recital costume for our annual recital in May of each year. Costume Deposits are applied in Mid-October of each year. They are $55 per class costume and usually cover most of the costume fees. Costumes range from $60-$85. Ballet/Tap Combo classes have 1 costume, but note that Senior Jazz has 2 costumes.
Deposits are non-refundable after December 1st once costumes are ordered. Costume companies in most cases do not allow for returns as most are made-to-order. If a student drops after December 1, we will notify the family when costumes are ready for pick up. Drops after December 1 will be responsible for FULL costume costs (Deposit and remainder).
FSAD has access to seamstresses that will help families with alterations with no additional cost or appointment times. If you prefer to take care of any alterations on your own, please contact the studio. If you need additional alterations due to personal preference after costume pick up, the responsibility to make those arrangements is yours.
Costumes arrive starting in mid February each year and will be held until Costume Pick Up day in April. Specific dates will be announced with full recital information in January.
Appropriate dance attire is expected in every class for visibility and functional purposes. If dancers are not dressed appropriately, they will be asked to change, or sit out and watch class. Appropriate dance attire is:
● Ballet/Tap Combo: pink ballet shoes, black tap shoes, leotard, tights (black, pink or tan) & hair neatly pulled back in a bun.
● Ballet (Girls, all ages): pink ballet shoes, leotard tights (black, pink or tan) & hair neatly pulled back in a bun.
● Ballet (Boys, all ages): ballet shoes, shorts or dance pants, form fitting t-shirt or tank top. Please no overly baggy fitting clothing!
● Jazz & Tap (ages 6+): leotard, dance shorts, leggings or dance pants. Tan Jazz shoes and hair neatly pulled back.
● Hip Hop (ages 8+): sweats, leggings, dance shorts, t-shirts and tank tops are permitted. Students should be able to move comfortably and maintain a level of modesty. Students have a pair of sneakers/tennis shoes that are reserved only for this class. Do not wear these shoes to/from the studio so we can ensure our floors are clean for everyone!
We ask that any warm-ups, tank tops, or t-shirts that are worn during class are form fitting so faculty and dancers can easily see body placement and body lines.
The First Street Academy of Dance has a close relationship with Second Skin Dance Shop in Marquette, MI. You can visit their website (https://secondskinshop.com) to order any dance wear needs. They have very fast processing and shipping! Second Skin visits FSAD twice a year in August and April for shoe fitting and dance wear shopping. Announcements will be made in July with dates.
PROHIBITED ATTIRE INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO: Street shoes not designated for studio use only, Baggy tops and pants, shirts with hoods, jeans, and pants that drag on the ground. Jewelry should be removed prior to the start of class. Clothing with profanity, hate speech, or other offending imagery or language is not allowed in our studios. Students may be asked to change if attire becomes too distracting to themselves or to the rest of the class.
